Why Doing Things Alone Is So Important

I used to hate being alone – It scared me. I’ve always wanted to be near people: my friends, my family, my boyfriend, and if I wasn’t, I felt unproductive and depressed.

It might’ve been being alone with my thoughts or my extreme case of FOMO. However, I later learned that there’s value in spending time with nobody but myself.

When you’re alone you don’t need to impress anybody, and you don’t need to think about the judgment of others. In other words — you can be COMPLETELY yourself.

When you’re being yourself, you will learn more about the authentic version of you. Under the influence of other people, you might not uncover that you actually love country music, or that you’re good at solving puzzles.

The joy of spending time alone is finding little things you never knew about yourself.

It’s like uncovering hidden facts about your partner or best friend, and better understanding why you love them so much. Only, it’s finding out what you love in your own self.

Sometimes it’s necessary to be reminded that people come and go in your life, but the one person you can always count on is you.

So, find the time to treat yourself by doing activities alone – Take on a new pottery class, hike with just you & the sound of nature, read a book all snuggled in your bed, or go on an ice cream run!

Now, when I see someone post with their friends, or an invitation fly over my head, I know I’ll be okay.

Because I already have something to look forward to tonight: A new adventure with me, myself, and I.
