Reminding Yourself: Life Can Be Good

I’ll admit it, sometimes I’m moody. Sometimes my head pops up with negative thought after thought, and I can’t control it. As my white bedsheets stain dark from my mascara, I try to come up with ideas that will make me feel better. I try to forget.

It’s hard, but I have to realize that these thoughts are all fleeting and will vanish with time.

I’ve learned that making lists helps. This can be any list, but mine are of my favorite feelings, moments, and objects. And after I create the list, I look back at it when I feel sad:

  1. Rollerskating

  2. The feeling after a good workout at the gym

  3. Being productive at a coffee shop

  4. Going shopping

  5. Taking a nap after the beach

  6. The smell of books

  7. Eating popcorn at a movie theater

  8. Coloring books!

  9. Biking with music

  10.  Cowboy boots

And then I also create a list of events I look forward to:

  1. college

  2. concerts

  3. receiving flowers

  4. summer

  5. sunny days

  6. acing a test

  7. little rewards

  8. finishing a book

These lists are so little and may seem silly, but they help me tremendously during hard times.

When I’m feeling sad, anxious or upset, I take a deep breath, open my phone, and check my list.

I am sharing this because I hope to help a girl out there, no matter what she’s going through, at least a little bit <3.
